Eat right before sleep: what to look for
No matter what you eat before going to sleep, leaner or nicer you will most likely not wake up. But you will sleep better and start the day much more relaxed.
Eat before sleep - you should avoid that
Once you eat, a lot of things are going on in your body. Depending on what you eat, the organism has to work more or less intensively to process the respective meal.
- Our body should relax during sleep and recharge your batteries. This does not work if the organism is busy half the night processing the food they eat.
- For this reason, nutritionists often recommend that you only eat and drink carefully at least four hours before you go to sleep. It is best not to eat anything about two hours before you go to bed.
- You should stick to the four-hour rule, especially with heavy and fatty food. Fats have to be converted by the body before they can be processed. And who does not know it, after a high-fat meal, many cannot fall asleep or only sleep very restlessly.
- However, it is not only particularly hearty food that often prevents restful sleep. Many types of vegetables and salads are also difficult for the body to digest if they are eaten raw.
- Legumes in particular occasionally cause stomach and intestinal problems and prevent us from sleeping.
- Caffeine is said to wake you up, so for some people the cup of coffee in the early morning is essential. In the evening we don't usually want to wake up, we want to sleep. Therefore, you should avoid caffeine at least four hours before sleeping. Of course, this also applies to teas such as green tea and black tea, which also contain caffeine.
- Energy drinks also turn up the body and wake you up. It is therefore also important to avoid energy drinks a few hours before going to bed.
- The effect of excessive alcohol on the organism and sleep is probably known to most.
- Even sugar or sugary foods are by no means useful for a peaceful sleep. Especially since many sweets consist of the combination of sugar and fat.
Wonder weapon food - so you sleep well
Basically: Eat smaller portions in the evening so that you do not overload the stomach or the digestive system.
- In the evening, or some time before going to the sheep, the food should be rather high in fiber and as low in fat as possible.
- Towards evening, you should no longer eat raw vegetables, only boiled or steamed vegetables.
- Do not eat products made from white flour, but prefer products made from whole wheat flour, such as whole wheat pasta or whole wheat bread.
- Soothing fruit or herbal teas or water are recommended for the drinks. The famous warm milk with honey or a hot chocolate are not wrong and help you fall asleep.
- Foods that contain serotonin, the so-called happiness hormone, such as walnuts or bananas, are also good sleep aids.
