Of course, there is no general recommendation here, but there are some guidelines that apply to almost all interviews. Below we have put together the most important tips for you.
You should take this into account when dressing for the job interview
As different as the different jobs and companies are, so are the expectations that the respective HR managers have of appropriate clothing. Therefore, you have to do a little research yourself, which dress code is appropriate in the respective company.
- Basically, whether casual or more conventional, the clothing should always be very clean and neat. No matter whether it is the jeans of a software developer or the suit of a banker.
- As a rule, you are always right with muted colors and depending on the industry and position you are applying for, this is even expected. With the colors anthracite, gray and black, as well as a white shirt or white blouse, you won't go wrong.
- If you have decided on a costume, the skirt should at least go to the knee. Always wear a color-matching silk tights,
- For pants, make sure that the stockings are so long that the legs are always covered, even if you cross your legs, for example. This also applies to men. It goes without saying that the stockings have a dark color and are color-coordinated with the pants.
- The stumps are in well-groomed shoes, which in no case have soles that have expired and are of a higher quality. In terms of color, the shoes naturally match the rest of the outfit. The female applicants make sure that the sales are not too high. In addition, the shoes should be closed, so no sandals or peep-toes.
- If you succeed in integrating the shoes into your outfit with the help of accessories, you will round off your clothing for the job interview harmoniously. You can achieve a harmonious appearance, for example, by carefully coordinating the shoes, the belt and / or the handbag.
- Otherwise, the basic rule for accessories is: less is more. In addition, your accessories should be of high quality to give the clothes the finishing touch. It can be a chic wristwatch, just like a charming piece of jewelry or a fine silk scarf. Depending on the job request, the accessory can also be a little more extravagant.
- Tip: Only wear clothes in which you are visibly comfortable. If you only bought the clothes for your interview, you should have worn the outfit at least once before the interview so that you can get used to it. Otherwise, it can quickly happen that you don't look sovereign but wooden and not very authentic.
This is how it works during the interview
It's not just your clothes that play an important role in the first decisive seconds of the interview.
- Deodorant and perfume or aftershave should only be applied very discreetly so as not to be intrusive.
- If there is a visit to the hairdresser, do it one to two weeks before the application date. So you get used to the new hairstyle and still have enough time to correct any incorrect cuts.
- Well-groomed hands and nails are of course also a must. If you apply nail polish, then no dark or bright red, but only subtle colors.
- Piercings and tattoos may be nice, but are not well received by most employers. Therefore, do not take any risks and remove or cover them up.
