Connect router - that's how it works
If you have received a new router or your first router, you must connect and set up the device correctly before using it. We'll show you how it's done and what you have to watch out for.
Step 1: Connect the router correctly
The scope of delivery of the router usually includes a power cable, a LAN cable, a DSL cable with a somewhat smaller connection and a matching TAE adapter for the telephone socket.
- Look for the telephone socket (TAE socket) in your household. There you should first remove all connected cables so that no interference occurs.
- In many households there are several telephone sockets. If you do not connect the router to the main telephone socket, you must first connect the DSL splitter.
- Plug the supplied DSL cable into the appropriate port on the router and the other end into the phone socket. Here you usually need the middle connection "F" and a TAE adapter.
- Connect the router to the power and connect it to your computer with a LAN cable. The router must then be set up.
Step 2: set up the router correctly
- In order for the router to give you access to the Internet, you still have to enter the access data from your Internet provider on the PC. If desired, you can also make further settings.
- In the following practical tip, we will show you how to find out the IP address of the router. Enter the IP address in the browser of your computer, you have access to the router and can carry out the setup.
