You always have to make settings on your DSL router. You need the IP address for this. We show you how to find out in this practical tip.
Find out the router's IP address
When delivered, routers often have the following IP addresses: 192.168.1.1, 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.178.1. If your model cannot be addressed via one of these addresses (e.g. because the IP address has been changed), the following options can be helpful:
- Press the [Windows] and [R] keys simultaneously and enter "CMD" (without quotation marks).
- Enter the "ipconfig" command there.
- The entry "IPv4 address" shows you the IP address of the router.
Router: Find out the IP address using the network name
Often routers also have a network name (e.g. "fritz.box", "easybox" etc.). You can also find out his IP address using this:
- Open the Windows console as described above.
- Enter the command "ping fritz.box" (without quotation marks).
- The IP address of the router is behind the output "Reply from".
