Receive RTL via cable - Here's how
If you have a cable connection at home, you can add RTL to your programs either via the automatic station search or manually:
- It is best to carry out the automatic station search. This differs a little between the two German cable providers Vodafone Kabel Deutschland and Unitymedia.
- To add the station manually, you have to check the frequency for RTL in your region at Kabel Deutschland or Kabel BW (Unitymedia).
RTL received via satellite
To be able to receive RTL via your satellite dish, you must either run a station search or enter the station manually in your receiver:

Receive RTL via DVB-T2: This is how it works with digital antenna reception
If you want to continue receiving the RTL transmitter via antenna after the DVB-T switch-off, you need a DVB-T2 receiver. You set this up as follows.
- Before you buy a DVB-compatible receiver, you should first check whether you can receive RTL via this type of transmission.
- To do this, enter your zip code in the ARD reception check. Here you can find out whether RTL is available at your location and what type of antenna you need.
- If you have connected your device according to the instructions, start a channel search.
- Unfortunately, RTL-HD cannot be received free of charge via DVB-T2. To do this, you must have a subscription to Freenet TV.
