Take your number with you immediately: you have to be aware of that
In order to be able to take your phone number with you immediately when changing the telephone tariff or provider, there are a few things to consider. The most important tips can be found here.
Regular number porting after the end of the contract
If you want to replace your previous contract with another telephone provider, there are a number of things to consider in order to enable a seamless transition between the two contracts.
- Make sure that your new contract allows you to take your old phone number with you. This is often not the case with prepaid contracts. Even when changing tariffs to the same provider, it is not always possible to transfer the number.
- Note the notice periods of your old contract. A number cannot be assigned across multiple contracts.
- Providers such as Galeria Mobil, ALDI Talk or Debitel offer all the necessary forms for taking a number with you.
- Cancel your old contract by the desired deadline and apply for an exemption from your phone number for the upcoming porting. Have the termination confirmed in writing.
- Bring your new contractual partner the confirmation of termination from the old provider. When you sign the contract, also tell your new provider that you want to port your old phone number. Give him your old provider and the customer data left there.
- Pay the porting fees to your old telephone provider on time. If necessary, these costs will be offset against your prepaid credit. In this case, make sure that your credit balance is sufficient.
Number portability before the end of the contract
Often you don't have to cancel your old contract, you can port the number and let your old contract continue with a new number.
- Request a transfer of the assigned number from your provider
- When you sign the contract, tell your new provider that you want to port your old phone number and give them your old provider and the customer data they have left there.
- The new provider can now initiate the number porting with your previous provider within 30 days. As a rule, the number transfer takes between one and two weeks.
- In this case too, processing costs are usually incurred
- Note that in this case you have two contracts running at the same time. You will of course be assigned a new number for your old contract.
