S Video on Cinch - you need to know that
Especially with old camcorders and DVD players, an S-video output is often installed. Usually an adapter to cinch is necessary, because newer TVs no longer have an S-Video input. We show you what detail you need to pay attention to.
Use S-Video to Cinch with an adapter
The composite connector with its yellow RCA plug is still installed in most TV sets. However, caution is advised when using adapters:
- For technical reasons, S-Video separates the signal into a color and a brightness component.
- With composite, however, brightness and color information is available in one signal. If the adapter does not combine the two signals, you will only receive a black and white picture on your television. Only one capacitor is sufficient in this direction for the addition of the signals. On the other hand, adapters from composite to S-Video can only be realized with more complex circuits.
- When buying an adapter, make sure that the adapter can actually transmit color signals.
- Unfortunately, this information is often omitted in the product description, so read in the comments whether other users have received a color image.
Similar to composite, you can also transmit S-Video signals using an adapter with Scart.
