Safari is the default browser on iOS devices and on Mac. We'll show you how to set it up and personalize it with TopSites, a homepage, bookmarks, add-ons and designs.
Tips to set up the Safari browser
When you open your Safari web browser, you can choose between different start interfaces.
- Similar to other browsers, you can set up a blank or specific homepage. Alternatively, choose a preview of twelve of your most visited pages, the so-called top sites.
- If you use bookmarks and want to display them in a bar, activate this bookmarks bar by clicking on "View" in the menu bar at the top and selecting "Show favorites bar". You add a bookmark by clicking "Bookmark"> "Add Bookmark ...".
- You can find add-ons such as the VLC web browser plug-in by going to the Safari Extensions page from Apple via "Safari"> "Safari Extensions ...". If you no longer need the add-ons, we will show you another practical tip on how to uninstall the plug-ins in Safari.
Customize Safari browser: Setup tips
If you want to change the storage space for the downloads, you will find the necessary settings via "Safari"> "Settings"> "General" in the "Storage location for downloads" option.

- By default, you can access Safari from the Dock. If not, open Safari first. Click on the symbol in the Dock with [Ctrl] and the mouse and choose "Keep in Dock".
