Safari: How can I bypass the country block on YouTube
If you want to see blocked videos on YouTube, you have to bypass the country block. Here we explain to you how you can achieve this in the Safari browser and how you can remove the GEMA lock.
Unlock YouTube videos through proxy
One way is to change the proxy that your computer uses to connect to the Internet. Usually it connects to a German server and therefore German law applies to you. In Russia or the United States, for example, YouTube videos are not blocked because the legal situation is different there. To assume the identity of an American computer and thus be able to view the content of the videos, proceed as follows:
- Find a proxy server - for example from the list on hidemyass.com.
- Open Safari.
- Go to the wheel in the upper right.
- Click on it and select "Settings" from the context menu.
- Click on the "Advanced" tab. There you will find the item "Proxies". Right next to it click on "Change settings ...".
- A window opens with the name "Properties of the Internet". There you will find the item "Settings for local network". Click on "LAN Settings."
- Click on "Use proxy server for LAN" and enter the address (in the manner of "190.82.89.156") and a port. Confirm everything with "OK". Now you can watch the videos you want.
Plugin for uncensored video enjoyment on YouTube
It is even easier with plugins that save you having to enter proxies manually - for example with the YouTube Unblocker. Download and install the extension for Safari. To watch blocked YouTube videos, do the following:
- Open youtube.com and enter the name of the video.
- The "normal" search results appear first. Click on "Unblock search results with YouTube Unblocker" under the search window (see graphic). Then the otherwise hidden search results also appear and you can watch the video.
A clear video instruction for the "YouTube Unblocker" can be found here. You can download more useful extensions for Safari here.
