In this practical tip, you will find out what could be the problem if your Samsung Galaxy S3 does not connect to the WLAN. The error does not necessarily have to be your smartphone, but an incorrectly set router can also be the problem.
Check your WiFi first
Before you look for the error on your smartphone, test whether your WLAN works at all. For example, try connecting to the WiFi network with other devices, such as a laptop. If this is not the case, then the problem is probably with your router. You often have to do this in the router settings. The following suggested solutions can help:
- Reboot your router. If this does not help, try to reset it to factory settings. To do this, there should be a button on the router.
- In some cases, incorrect encryption leads to WLAN problems. Remove the encryption for your router as a test. If you can connect, be sure to encrypt your router again. It is best to use WPA2 encryption for this.
- The so-called MAC filter could also be activated. Deactivate this in the router settings. But this should only be a temporary solution.
WLAN error on the Galaxy S3
If you have made sure that the problems do not have to be with your router, but with your Samsung Galaxy S3, there are several possible solutions. The simplest method is to restart the device. If this does not help, try the following:
- If you see a WiFi network, but cannot connect, make sure that you have entered the correct password. Pay attention to upper and lower case.
- Check if your Galaxy S3 has the latest firmware installed. If you don't have an internet connection with your smartphone, visit the Samsung support page.
- If necessary, it also helps to briefly deactivate the WLAN function of the Galaxy S3 via the settings and then switch it on again. We explain how this works under Android 4.3 here.
If none of these tips help, your Galaxy S3 could be damaged. In this case, consult a specialist or make use of your guarantee.
