Samsung Galaxy S6 vs. Galaxy S7 - a comparison
With the S7, Samsung has launched the latest flagship in its Galaxy series. Compared to the Galaxy S6, however, the question arises whether it is worth buying the S7 at all. We have compared all the facts about the two smartphones here.
Samsung Galaxy S6 vs. Galaxy S7: the outer differences
At first glance, there are no serious differences between the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S7.
- Dimensions: The dimensions of the S6 are 143mm x 71 mm x 9 mm in height, width and thickness. At 142.4 mm x 69.6 mm x 7.9 millimeters, the S7 is only about one millimeter thinner.
- Display: The size of the screen on the Galaxy S6 is 5.1 inches with a proud resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The S7 also retains these values.
- Weight: At around 139 grams, the S6 is a real lightweight. Here the Galaxy S7 has gained a bit and comes to 152 grams.
Hardware differences in the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S7
However, the new hardware of the Samsung Galaxy S7 has it all. The Galaxy S7 scores above its predecessor in particular with the more powerful battery, the micro SD slot and the IP68 certification.
- Processor: The Samsung Galaxy S6 was already on the move with its Exynos 7420 processor with a clock speed of 2.1 GHz and 8 cores. However, the S7 is even faster with its Exynos 8890 octa-core processor and a clock speed of 2.3 GHz.
- Main memory: The S7 now has 4 GB of RAM, which in conjunction with the processor delivers great performance. The Galaxy S6 still has a good 3.1 GB here.
- Storage: The Samsung Galaxy S6 is available as a 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB version - but without a micro SD slot. The Galaxy S7, on the other hand, comes on the market in Germany with 32 GB, but can be increased by up to 200 GB via Micro SD.
- Battery: The S7 has also increased its battery. This storage5 is now 3000 mAh and is therefore significantly stronger than the 2, 550 mAh battery of its predecessor. The batteries are not interchangeable in either model.
- Special features: The Galaxy S7 has an IP68 certification and is therefore completely dust and waterproof. The Samsung Galaxy S6 cannot even show an IP67 certification here. The S7 now also supports LTE Cat9, whereas the S6 "only" can handle LTE Cat6.
- Operating system: The Galaxy S6 works with Android 5.1, the Galaxy S7 is delivered with the new Android 6.
- Camera: Where the rear camera of the S6 still had a resolution of 16 megapixels, the S7 now has 12 megapixels on the data sheet. However, the Galaxy S7 uses this to its advantage, which leads to significantly better pictures in poor picture conditions and enables fast autofocus. The front camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels on both smartphones and recordings are possible up to a 4k resolution.
Conclusion - Samsung Galaxy S6 or S7?
- The Samsung Galaxy S6 is still technically in a top position. However, if you want the absolute ultimate in the current smartphone market, the Galaxy S7 is the right model.
- The gamers, who can look forward to future high-end games, are particularly well addressed here. However, if you are looking for a rock-solid cell phone with good features at a fair price, you cannot go wrong with the predecessor S6.
