Samsung Galaxy S8: the best tips and tricks
From April 28th the Samsung Galaxy S8 is officially available in stores. We are already showing you the best tips and tricks for the new flagship from Samsung.
Samsung Galaxy S8: Customize the on-screen buttons
- The S8 is the first smartphone from Samsung to dispense with the soft key buttons and instead implemented them directly into the display.
- If you want to customize the on-screen buttons, go to the settings and select "Display" and "Navigation bar".
- Here you can change the position of the back button, among other things.
Samsung Galaxy S8: Set the display zoom
- In the settings you will find the screen zoom in the menu items "Display" and "Screen zoom and font". With this you determine how far the respective screen section should be zoomed.
- Move the slider to the far left so you can see more on your display.
- If you move the slider to the far right instead, the screen section will be zoomed in on. This makes it bigger. At the same time, however, less is shown on the display.
Samsung Galaxy S8: Activate the edge notification
- Similar to the previous models from the Edge series, you can also activate the edge notification on the S8. This notifies you of important notifications through the display edges.
- To use this, go to the settings and select "Display" and "Edge screen".
- Activate the Edge lighting here to use the mode.
Samsung Galaxy S8: Use the iris scanner as an unlocking method
- The iris scanner is not activated at the factory to unlock the S8. You must therefore set it up first so that you can use it to unlock the device.
- To do this, go to Settings and tap on "Device Security". Under the item "Lock screen type" activate the iris scanner.
- Then follow the on-screen instructions to set up the iris scanner.
Samsung Galaxy S8: Use Samsung Pay
- In line with the S8, Samsung has launched a new payment service called "Samsung Pay". You can use it to pay with your smartphone via NFC.
- Simply select the "Samsung Pay" app and set it up by entering your credit card.
- You can also enter partner cards, such as Payback, in the app.
Samsung Galaxy S8: Activate the always-on display
- Samsung has already provided the always-on display under the S7. This means that the time and important notifications are always shown on the display.
- To activate this, go to the settings and select "Device security" and "Lock screen type". Here you can activate it.
Samsung Galaxy S8: Pimp your S8 with new themes
- For the new S8, Samsung has donated a number of new themes to beautify the surface.
- To do this, swipe on the homescreen with two fingers as if you were zooming out of an image. Then select "Themes".
- You will now be taken to the Themes Store, where you can download and install free and paid themes.
Samsung Galaxy S8: How to take a screenshot with the S8
Since the S8 no longer has the physical home button, which you used to take a screenshot of the previous models together with the on / off button, you have to do the following for a screenshot:
- You can hold down the power button along with the volume down button (quieter) to take a screenshot.
- Alternatively, wipe the edge of your hand from left to right across the display.
We will show you in another practical tip how you can improve the battery life of the Samsung Galaxy S8.
