If your Samsung charging cable is broken, the charging time is usually extremely long, or the connection is interrupted when charging. In the following practical tip, we will tell you how to find out whether your cable is defective and what you can do about it.
Samsung charging cable defective or device damage? Here's how to find out
- To rule out a device error, try charging your smartphone with a different micro USB cable. If there are no problems here, your Samsung charging cable is most likely broken, but your smartphone is intact.
- A broken cable often causes loose contacts. Move the Samsung charging cable back and forth a little and check whether the charging breaks off.
- If this is the case, you can only continue charging with the broken cable if you put it in a charging position and then do not move it until the phone is fully charged.
Samsung charging cable broken: repair with the ballpoint pen method
With a few tweaks, you can repair your defective cable yourself. You will need a small spring, for example in ballpoint pens, a lighter or a candle and a piece of shrink tubing that is large enough to pull the micro USB connector through.
- Cut two pieces of heat shrink tubing. The first should only be a little longer than the ballpoint pen nib and the second another five millimeters longer.
- Now push the shorter piece of shrink tubing over the connector so that the point is covered with the cable break.
- To ensure that the heat shrink tube adapts well to the cable, heat it carefully and evenly from all sides with a fire source.
- Now run the pen spring over the piece of heat shrink tubing, use pliers if necessary. The spring should also be exactly over the break.
- Then slide the longer piece of hose over the spring so that nothing of the first two layers is visible.
- Heat again with a lighter or a candle to fit the second hose as well. This method works both on the micro USB connector and on the other side with the power connector.
- If you don't have a shrink tube at hand, you can also use gaffa tape or insulating tape.
Samsung charging cable broken - can I just use a different micro USB cable?
- Basically, you can also use a different smartphone charging cable to recharge your cell phone. However, you should note the tension.
- The voltage is usually printed directly on the power plug and is around 230 volts.
- If you use a charging cable with a lower voltage than that of the original cable, problems with the touchscreen may occur during the charging process.
- You can usually buy an original cable online for less than five euros.
