Samsung Series 9: Fix touchpad problem

If you have a problem with the touchpad of a current series 9 ultrabook from Samsung, several solutions can help: You can change the settings of the touchpad yourself or update the BIOS and / or the touchpad driver. We explain all three methods using the example of a Samsung 900X4C A08 under Windows 8.
Change the touchpad settings of the Samsung Series 9 Ultrabook
If your touchpad still works in principle, but reacts too slowly or does not perform swiping gestures as desired, you should first check the settings of the touchpad:
- Search for "Touchpad" in the "Settings" area via the Charms menu (see screenshot).
- The top search result leads you to the Samsung settings window, where you can then configure the pointer speed or sensitivity, among other things. You can also set how the touchpad should behave when touched with one, two or more fingers.
Touchpad stops responding at all
If your touchpad stops responding, first check whether you accidentally pressed Fn + F5 and inadvertently deactivated the touchpad. If pressing this key combination again does not help, you must either update the driver of the touchpad or under certain circumstances even the BIOS of your Series 9 computer.
- Both are of course quite difficult without a touchpad, so it's best to first connect a mouse to the USB port of the Ultrabook.
- The "SW Update" program is available for newer Samsung devices for updates. This is usually on your desktop as a shortcut, otherwise you can also access it via the Samsung Quick Starter menu (see screenshot).
- In the "SW Update", the necessary updates (also for the touchpad) are normally displayed automatically, you only need to confirm their installation.
- In addition to a driver update for the touchpad, it may also be necessary, as I said, to update the BIOS. However, BIOS updates via "SW Update" do not always run smoothly, especially for Series 9 devices - you often have to start the download several times until it actually works.
- If you still have problems with the BIOS update, two tricks help: Run the update separately, i.e. without downloading other updates in SW Upgrade at the same time. Second tip: Connect the notebook to the socket during the upgrade.
