Samsung advertising via push notification: you can do that
In recent years, Samsung has repeatedly caused negative press through annoying push notification advertising. We'll tell you what's really wrong with the allegations.
Samsung is annoying: advertising via push notifications
Websites and apps are often financed through advertising. Amazon even directly advertises on users' tablets if they want to save a few euros on the purchase. This advertisement is annoying, but it has been approved. Different at Samsung:
- The Koreans stepped into their shoes in 2015 to place advertising directly on their smartphones without users' consent. In contrast to the around 100 euros expensive devices from Amazon, smartphones from Samsung cost up to 1, 000 euros.
- With the pre-installed peel remote app, Samsung has activated a push message on the smartphones of your users with advertising for the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. The app is actually intended to be used as a remote control for the TV.
- However, Samsung does not seem to have learned from the incident. In 2017, owners of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S8 were bothered with advertising for game apps, provided they previously activated the pre-installed "Game Launcher" app. Here, too, the advertising was placed without being asked.
Push notification advertising: is Samsung going too far?
- Advertising is undoubtedly necessary and, above all, the only way for many websites to finance themselves. However, unsolicited advertising on high-priced devices, which the manufacturer infiltrates through back doors, goes too far for many users.
- Since the advertising triggers are preinstalled apps, you can only remove the applications with a root. Alternatively, you can simply deactivate the notifications - on older devices for the Peel Remote app, on newer models for the Game Launcher.
