Sauerkraut is very healthy because it contains valuable lactic acid bacteria that are good for the intestine and immune system when fresh, unpasteurized and not heated. The vegetable fibers of the cabbage are also healthy fiber, which serve the bacteria as feed.
Stay healthy with sauerkraut
Those who regularly eat sauerkraut provide their intestines with good lactic acid bacteria. These are important for many functions in the body. Among other things, they provide an acidic environment in the body in which viruses, bacteria, fungi, germs and bad intestinal bacteria do not feel comfortable.
- Health is now well known in the gut. Nevertheless, there are often not enough good intestinal bacteria in the intestinal flora, so that you can use sauerkraut to ensure a better balance.
- Eat a fork of fresh, raw sauerkraut daily before a meal. Or eat a portion of the fermented vegetables several times a week to enjoy the health benefits.
- Alternatively, you can also drink a glass of sauerkraut juice daily before meals. This must also be fresh and unpasteurized.
- Instead of sauerkraut, any other vegetable can be fermented and coated with lactic acid bacteria. If you don't like cabbage, try lactic cucumber, carrots or beetroot, for example.
What you should consider with sauerkraut
If you want to stay healthy with sauerkraut and strengthen your immune system, pay attention to the quality of the herb.
- In organic shops you can find fresh sauerkraut mixed with sea salt. You should avoid herbs seasoned with table salt, because table salt is incomplete and therefore causes a deficiency in your body.
- Sea salt or rock salts, on the other hand, are natural and complete. They contain everything the body needs to break down and use the salt and therefore do not produce any deficiency symptoms. This means that the body does not have to extract the missing minerals from reserves, bones or muscles.
- Sauerkraut must also be unpasteurized and should not be heated by you, otherwise the lactic acid bacteria will die. Then it may taste good anyway, but it no longer has the same benefit for the intestinal environment.
- If you eat pasteurized or heated sauerkraut, you can still benefit from the plant fibers it contains. These are natural fibers that serve the healthy intestinal bacteria as feed. They are also abundant in fresh cabbage and fiber-rich vegetables.
