Scanning with an HP printer - a guide
As an HP printer owner, there are several ways to scan documents. In this practical tip, we will show you how to use these methods to digitize images or text.
Scan with HP printer: Windows Fax and Scan
After you have set up your HP printer under Windows and can use it properly, you can also scan via "Windows Fax and Scan".
- Search for "Windows Fax and Scan" on your computer.
- Then click on "New Scan".
- The program automatically searches for a scanner, but you can also select a different device using the "Change" button.
- After you have made the desired settings such as "Brightness" or "Resolution", start the process via "Scan". You can then choose a location.
- Depending on the printer, you can also change the source, ie choose between "flatbed glass" and the "automatic document feeder".
Scan with HP printer: printer software
Unfortunately, you have only a few options to choose from under "Windows Fax and Scan". In addition, you can only save your scan as an image. There are special programs for most HP printers.
- You can either install the correct program for your printer using the supplied CD or download it from HP.
- After installation, search Windows for the name of your printer and open the program of the same name.
- Click on the "Scan document or photo" item to open a new window. There you can set some options as well as the file format. PDF, JPEG or OCR (editable text) are available, for example.
- Here, too, you can change the source depending on the printer, so choose between "flatbed glass" and the "automatic document feeder".
Scan to HP printer: Scan to computer
Depending on the model, your HP printer also offers the "Scan to computer" option, which you can use to scan directly from the device.
- Open the HP software and select "Manage scanning to computer".
- Then check the "Activate" box.
- Now you can select "Scan" on your printer and make all settings directly there.
