Scart or HDMI - which is better? So you make the right decision
Multimedia devices always have multiple inputs, including HDMI or Scart. In this practical tip, we explain which of the two is better and what are the differences.
Clear decision: HDMI has almost only advantages over Scart
Scart actually only has a niche existence because the advantages of transmission via HDMI outweigh the benefits.
- HDMI signals are transmitted symmetrically and digitally, whereas Scart sends the data error-prone and analog.
- Scart is clearly inferior in resolution and image quality. That is why TV manufacturers hardly install scart sockets in their TVs. Not only is this an advantage, the cables and connectors from HDMI are also slimmer.
- With an HDMI adapter to the Scart socket, you can connect old game consoles or play video tapes. Alternatively, the classic AV cinch inputs can be used with an adapter.
- So if you have a choice between Scart and HDMI, you should always choose HDMI. You should only use Scart if the source device has no other connections.
In the next practical tip we will explain whether you can also use Scart to HDMI adapters.
