Archiving a record on CD - does it work?
Almost everything is possible with the right equipment - including archiving the record collection on CDs. Here we show you how to do it in just a few steps.
Digitize records
To archive your records on CDs, you need a turntable with a USB connection. These are already designed to digitize records - You can find detailed instructions in this practical tip.
- You need software to record the music. There is also suitable freeware, such as the popular recording program Audacity. The manufacturer of the turntable often also provides the appropriate software.
Archive vinyl files on CD
If you have digitized your record according to the practical tip mentioned above and have saved the files on your hard drive, you can burn it to a CD. There is suitable freeware for this - for example the program "CDBurnerXP". And this is how it works:
- Download "CDBurnerXP" and install the burning program.
- Open the program, click "Audio CD" on the start screen and then click "OK".
- In the upper half of the program you will now see a familiar Explorer window, in which you can navigate through your files. Find the recorded files and drag them to the lower half while holding down the mouse button.
- When you have added the necessary files, insert a blank CD into the drive and click on "Burn" in "CDBurnerXP" (see screenshot). The files are now burned onto the blank.
If you have recorded your record completely in Audacity, you may want to separate the recording into individual clips. We explain how this works here.
If you want to use Audacity but have no experience with the freeware, you can find a small tutorial here.
