Smurf ice: How it turns blue and what's really inside
Smurf ice cream is a blue ice cream that is particularly popular with children. However, what is behind the color should be enjoyed with caution.
So smurf ice becomes a blue ice
It smiles brightly from the ice cream parlor and tastes of vanilla and chewing gum. Some additives are responsible for this.
- Schlumpfeis is named after the cartoon characters of the same name and is also known as the "Blue Angel". The striking blue variety is available in many ice cream parlors.
- The basis is classic Fiocco ice cream made from milk, sugar and cream.
- Coloring ingredients are necessary for the bright blue. This is the so-called "Pasta Fiocco Azzurro". Blue Curacao is rarely used for the blue color.
- The Fiocco Azzurro pasta consists of sugar and the additives E 131, E-133 and E 151.
- E numbers are known to be harmful additives. Brilliant blue (E 133) is heavily deposited in the kidneys and lymphatic vessels. Brilliant black (E 151) can trigger allergic reactions. Both have been found in animal experiments.
