The larger your screen is, the more important it is to sharpen the fonts displayed. In Windows you will find practical system settings. We'll show you how to focus the font.
Step 1: Improve font sharpness with the screen resolution
Before you jump on the system tools, you should check the set screen resolution. The rule here is: the higher the resolution, the sharper the fonts displayed.
- To do this, right-click on a free space on the desktop.
- Now select the item "Screen resolution" from the context menu.
- Set the recommended value under "Resolution". In the screenshot, for example, this is a display of 1920 x 1680 pixels.
- With a click on "Ok" Windows changes your screen resolution. Confirm the warning that appears with "Keep changes". If you no longer see a decent picture, you only have to wait 15 seconds. Windows restores the old settings after this time.
Step 2: "Calibrate the monitor sharply"
If your font is still out of focus, you should check the monitor settings. Basically, Windows reliably sets your screen. However, manual control sometimes hides miracles - especially with dark backgrounds:
- First, right-click on the desktop. Then select the "Customize" entry in the context menu.
- Click on "Display" at the bottom left and then select "Calibrate Color".
- The color calibration now opens. Here Windows adjusts the brightness, the contrast and the gamma values of your monitor, among other things. The individual settings can be found below in the picture gallery.
Step 3: adjust the automatic anti-aliasing
Since Windows XP, Microsoft has also used Cleartype anti-aliasing to sharpen displayed fonts. However, this is annoying on many TFT monitors. How to deactivate the "Feature":
- Right-click the desktop again and select the "Customize" entry.
- Click "Display" and then "Customize ClearType Text".
- Now follow the settings wizard. The shows you various text examples from which you should select the sharpest. This is how Windows gradually adapts your typeface.
Pixel errors can also cause some text to appear blurred. Here we explain how you can find such errors.
