Black screen: MacBook won't start - what to do?
If your MacBook doesn't start and still displays a black screen, in some cases you can solve the problem yourself. We'll show you exactly how to do it.

- If the MacBook starts, but shows a dark, gray picture, there is still great hope for the MacBook. You will find the right solutions in the next paragraph.
- If the screen of the MacBook does not change color after starting, the connection between the motherboard and the display is faulty or the entire display is defective.
- Even if the MacBook doesn't start at all, there is little you can do yourself. Most of the time, this is a case for Apple's manufacturer warranty or a paid repair.

- P-RAM: Turn on the MacBook and hold down the [CMD (⌘)] + [ALT (⌥)] + [P] + [R] keys directly. Keep the buttons pressed until the device starts again and you hear the start tone for the second time. Resetting the parameter RAM eliminates temporary errors.
- Devices: Disconnect all USB and Thunderbolt connections to the MacBook. Under certain circumstances, only a connected device blocks the start.
- Monitor: Connect an external monitor to your MacBook to check if the problem is with the display or the MacBook. If you get a picture on the external monitor, something is wrong with the display. A specialist should repair such damage.
- Recovery mode: Start the MacBook and try to enter the recovery mode by pressing the [CMD (⌘)] + [R] keys. Select the "Hard Disk Utility" and click on "Check Volume" under your hard disk.
