Take a screenshot in the VLC media player
The VLC media player not only plays many video and music formats, you can also take screenshots of the films. This saves you the cumbersome way of using the "Print button" and inserting it into an image editing program. You can read how to do this in this practical tip.
Take a screenshot with the VLC media player
- Pause the video where you want to take a screenshot.
- Click "Video" in the menu bar and "Take a video snapshot" in the drop-down menu below.
- Since you do not see a menu bar in full screen mode, you can also right-click in the player window to access the video menu.
- It is faster with the key combination [Shift] + [S].
Select the location of the VLC screenshots
As a rule, the VLC Media Player saves the screenshots in the "Own Pictures" as a png image file. However, you can adapt the path and file format to your requirements.
- Click on "Tools" in the menu bar and then on "Settings" or alternatively use the hotkey: [Ctrl] + [P].
- In the settings, select the "Video" menu on the left.
- Scroll down. With "Video snapshots" you set the storage path and the file format (eg JPEG).
If your video is played upside down in the VLC player, you will find the solution to the problem here.
