You can take a screenshot on the iPad with a simple shortcut. We show you how this works and how you can then share, send and use the screenshot in various apps.
iPad: take screenshot
- To photograph what the display is currently showing, press the home button (front) and the power switch (top right) of the iPad simultaneously.
- You will then hear the shutter sound of a camera and the iPad screen will flash.
- The screenshot is automatically saved in the "Photos" app.

Then open the screenshot in the Photos app, you can share it, save it in other places or use it for other purposes.
- Open the image and tap the square icon with the up arrow in the lower left corner.
- A menu with several options opens.
- You can share the screenshot via AirDrop using the menu item directly below the image preview.
- The next slider contains apps that can use the screenshot. Depending on which apps you have installed, the menu item looks different. For example, you can share your photo here on Facebook or Twitter, send it by email or iMessage, open it in iBooks, add it to a note or share it using iCloud.
- The lowest menu band lets you play pictures via slide show or AirPlay. You can also use this to assign photos to a contact or set them as wallpaper. If you have an AirPrint printer, you can also print out the screenshot.
- Note: There is a special feature of the "Dropbox" app. The option to save pictures there can be found in the menu bar at the bottom and not in the installed apps.
Take a screenshot: This is how it works on the iPhone
- You can do the same on iPhone as on iPad. With older devices, just hold down the home button and the power button for a few seconds.
- The home button has been history since the iPhone X. On the newer devices you have to press the power button and the volume up button on the other side of the iPhone for a screenshot.
