SCSI on hard drive - what does that mean?
When people talk about SCSI on a hard disk, it is not always clear what is behind it. We explain what the expression means.
SCSI for hard disk: simply explained
The abbreviation stands for Small Computer System Interface and denotes a group of standards for interfaces. When a hard drive is referred to as SCSI, it means that SCSI is used as an interface between itself and other components.
- SCSI was developed to standardize communication between different peripheral devices and to make them significantly faster.
- Via SCSI, your computer can communicate with printers, hard drives, scanners and other end devices. This flexibility has quickly made SCSI a widespread standard.
- Many SCSI hard drives were used, especially in the corporate area. They were characterized by high reliability and fast data rates.
- Nowadays, the interface is almost no longer used because it has been replaced by SAS and SATA. You can only find SCSI in old systems.
