Format SD card under Windows - how it works
If you want to completely delete all data on your SD card, formatting in Windows is recommended. We'll show you how it's done.
Windows: Format SD card
- Press the "Windows" and "E" keys simultaneously so that the Explorer opens.
- At the bottom of the window you will now find the SD card. Right click on it and select the "Format" option.
- If you have no special requirements, click on the "Restore device standards" button below.
- Since most SD cards are used in digital cameras, you should select "FAT32" as the format above. If this is not available, select "FAT".
- Activate the checkmark in front of the "Quick format" option and click on the "Start" button below.
- If you confirm with "OK", the SD card will be formatted. When the process is finished, close the window with "OK" and "Close".
- Tip: We will show you how to format the SD card under Android in the next tip.
If your SD card or USB stick is defective, you can still save the data.
