Shell32.dll is missing - you can do that
In most cases, your computer reports that the Shell32.dll file is missing and Windows can no longer be started. We'll show you how to solve the problem.
Shell32.dll is missing: Repair Windows
- If you are using Windows XP, Vista or 7, simply insert the Windows DVD into your computer. Change the boot order if necessary and load the DVD. If you select the "Computer repair options", the file will be replaced in most cases so that Windows will run again.
- In Windows 8 and 10, all you have to do is open the BIOS. Select the "Advanced Options" in the "Troubleshooter". Start the "Start-up aid" first, if that doesn't help, select the "Restore system" item.
Shell32.dll: replace missing file
If the instructions above did not help you, you can replace the Shell32.dll file manually.
- Start Windows first in safe mode. Here you will find instructions for Windows 7 and older, as well as for Windows 8 and 10.
- Open the path "C: \ Windows \ System32" in Explorer and look for the file "shell32.dll".
- Right-click on the file and select "Properties".
- Go to the "Details" tab above and you will find the "File version" there.
- The respective version of the exchange file should match the current version as closely as possible. On dll-files.com you will find a selection of several versions.
- Save the old "shell32.dll" on a USB stick and then delete the file from the computer.
- Insert the new "shell32.dll" and restart Windows.
