Shutdown timer on Android - how does it work?
On an Android smartphone, you can set up a so-called shutdown timer, with which your cell phone switches off automatically at a specified time. That's how it works.
Set shutdown timer on rooted smartphone
A prerequisite for the automatic shutdown is that you have rooted your smartphone - we show you what you need to know in this practical tip. It is best to use an extra app for the timer itself, eg the "Power Schedule" tool.
- Install the app from the Google Play Store.
- Open it and tap on the "Create Event" tile.
- Enter the time at which your phone should be shut down under "Set time" and select the "Switch off" option under "Event type".
- Optionally, you can enter a name for the event above and select days of the week on which it should be repeated. This is useful, for example, if you want to switch your smartphone off automatically at night.
- Confirm with "Done" and the cell phone will be shut down at the set time.
- Please note that the first time the tool is used, the super user rights for "Power Schedule" must be given. Set the selection to "Allow permanently" to work around this problem in the future.
These instructions refer to "Power Schedule" in version 2.1.9 under Android 4.3.1 on a Samsung Galaxy S3 (CyanogenMod 10.2). In this practical tip you will learn what rooting your phone can be useful for.
