Would you like to connect a new device to your WLAN and want to display the associated security key? So you can quickly and easily find out where to find it.
Show WLAN security key in Windows 7.
With Windows 7 you can easily check the security keys:
- In the "Control Panel" under the category "Network and Internet" select the menu item "Show network status and tasks".
- The "Network and Sharing Center" then opens by clicking on "Manage wireless networks" on the right.
- Your saved WLAN networks appear. Right click on the desired network and select "Properties".
- You will find the network key under the "Security" tab. (see the screenshot)
Check the WLAN security key directly on the router.
You can also read the WLAN security key in your router. This is particularly useful for older versions of Windows, since you cannot access the WLAN code there without additional programs. We show this using the example of a Fritzbox.
- Enter "fritz.box" in the address line of your browser. Then enter your password.
- Click on "WLAN" in the menu bar on the left and then on "Security"
- In the main window you will now find the security key you are looking for under "WLAN network key"
The first instructions apply to Windows 7. It works similarly for Windows Vista. This method does not work with Windows XP and below. The second manual is independent of the operating system, but only applies to a fritz! Box. The procedure may differ for other routers.
