Sim City: The 10 best tips
We will give you the best tips for "SimCity": In the strategy game you build your dream city on a limited area. However, being mayor is more work than you think - satisfying all Sims and having a positive balance at the same time can be a big challenge.
10. Reduce traffic in SimCity
To keep traffic as low as possible at all times, you should build roads with the highest possible density. Once you have built roads, you can upgrade to larger streets afterwards.
- You should build as few intersections as possible on the main traffic roads. You can do that with bridges and tunnels! To do this, press the [M] or [N] key while dragging a road to lower or raise the road.
- Instead of a simple corner, you should build curves. This saves you a traffic light that stops traffic unnecessarily.
- Try to only build T-crossings. So the traffic runs faster.
- Public transport is also important for less traffic. When traffic gets out of hand, build bus stops and trams.
Tip 9: Take loans from the bank
You can get loans in SimCity at particularly low interest rates.
- In the beginning you can take out 25, 000 Simoleon's credit. Then they just have to pay back 27, 880. After placing the community center, you can also take out 50, 000 Simoleon loans. The loans are automatically repaid in installments.
- Build a finance department at your town hall as early as possible. Not only can you specifically increase and decrease taxes, you also get a credit volume of 100, 000 Simoleons per credit slot.
- You can always take a maximum of three loans. Always leave a credit slot free so that you can react quickly to disasters or redeploy loans.
- If you have enough money together, you can of course repay the loans in one fell swoop - this is also possible with borrowed money. If you take out a loan to repay two others, you can quickly clear a loan slot.
8. Use integrated data cards in SimCity
With the SimCity data cards you have a good overview of the basic conditions of your card, the status of your city and its inhabitants.
- Here you can see, for example, in which direction the wind is blowing. After that, you should make sure to place the industrial area so that the factory fumes are not blown directly into the residential area.
- You can also see which mineral resources are available on the data cards. So they can skillfully place water towers, drill for oil or mine coal.
- Here you will also find information about your citizens, population density or connections to public transport such as buses or trams. Above all, you should check the satisfaction bars again and again.
- You can find the data cards in the lower right corner while the game is running. Then several symbols appear, each of which represents a data card.
7. High density and high property value for better income
You should make sure that especially in the later course of the game a large part of your city has a medium to high building density.
- With a high building density, high-rise buildings are formed in which more Sims can be accommodated. This will increase your tax revenue and your city will develop faster.
- You should also ensure high property prices to attract workers to the higher income bracket.
- Buildings that are close to special places such as schools or the town hall are automatically more valuable. Parks also increase the property value for all residential buildings within a radius. Overlapping radii add up and are therefore particularly valuable.
- If you create a park directly in each block of houses, you can attract wealthier Sims in the first few minutes of play on a budget. But make sure that they find enough work!
6. Provide educated SimCity residents at an early stage
You should provide adequate education at an early stage in your city, as this can relieve many other areas.
- If Sims are educated at least in a primary school, you know that you can't play with fire, that you can't be criminal, and how to separate garbage.
- Without education, your income drops and at the same time, many thieves mischief. The fire brigade can also face major problems if many houses burn at the same time.
- After building two schools in the course of the game, you can also build a university. As a result, the technology level of your city increases significantly and you can conduct special research.
- The better your Sims are, the better the industrial buildings will be: They produce less pollution and bring higher income to your budget.
5. Fight crime early
As soon as crimes emerge, you should set up a police station.
- If you don't fight crime, the thieves will pull other residents to "the dark side". The number of criminals is increasing rapidly.
- The more crimes there are, the harder it will be to suppress crime, as the crime will be lurking around every corner. In this case, you must hire as many police officers as possible to patrol.
- If you are not careful, the crime will even go beyond the city limits. If there is even one city in the region without a police force, it can mean the downfall of all cities in the region.
- When building a gambling city, the police are especially important because casinos are real crime magnets. The best thing to do is to build a police station in the middle of the center of your casino district. Then the guard also has a deterrent effect on the crooks.
4. Specialize your cities in SimCity
In the specialization menu you can select different specializations for your city.
- You can pump oil, mine coal ore, build a trading or gambling city, or turn your city into a tourist trap. The chosen card is of great importance for the decision (for example, a large oil deposit).
- Then you have to build the right focus. For example, good infrastructure is particularly important in a tourist city.
- Plan from the start how the city should be structured and which specialization you choose. The residential area should not later be on the only oil well.
- Mining and oil production create many jobs - so you don't have to expand your industry significantly with these specializations.
3. Skilfully distribute areas from the start
The distribution of residential, commercial and industrial areas can be crucial for the success of your city.
- You should be careful not to build residential areas next to industrial areas - otherwise the residents will complain about the noise, the high air and soil pollution and get sick more quickly.
- Commercial areas are a perfect buffer between residential areas and industrial areas. At the same time, the industrial areas benefit from short distances to the production plants as well as to the buyers.
- In addition, you must take the wind direction into account at the beginning. As far as possible, you should not build the areas so that the industrial fumes are blown directly into the residential areas.
- Nevertheless, pay attention to a good and short transport connection between residential areas and workplaces, otherwise traffic jams will not be long in coming.
2. Use this trick to remove soil pollution
Too much soil pollution can lead to real problems: residents complain about the dirt and soil pollution can also get into the drinking water.
- Once there is dirt in the drinking water, the residents quickly get sick and the waiting rooms of the hospitals are quickly crowded. This results in a high level of dissatisfaction.
- Soil pollution should be combated as best as possible. If the floor is dirty near water pumps, you should only use the expensive but effective filter pumps.
- Remove existing soil pollution with trees or parks that you put directly on the polluted areas. Although this takes a long time, it also brings groundwater.
1. Play SimCity with your friends!
The game is most fun when you play with friends in a region.
- It is particularly exciting to watch the growth of a friend's city. This also gives you the best ideas on how to skilfully lay roads.
- It also has some advantages in the game. When the electricity is running low, you can buy electricity from your friends who have a surplus.
- However, you should only play with friends you trust. If, for example, a friend builds a nuclear power plant and then does not pay close attention, a meltdown can quickly occur. After that, the entire region is irradiated.
- High crime and pollution can also pose a huge problem for the entire region.
