SIM card for Canada: you should pay attention to this
- Due to the size of Canada, the numerous mobile operators concentrate on certain areas. No provider is represented in all 10 provinces. Therefore, only access providers that are represented in the desired regions.
- In Canada, mobile phone contracts are much more widespread than prepaid tariffs. For this reason, the prices in the prepaid models are not too attractive. A mobile phone contract with a term of 24 to 36 months is not even worth it for Work & Traveler.
- Network coverage often leaves something to be desired, especially in rural areas. If you are going to be in the country for a long time, you should check the network coverage of the respective providers in this region in advance.
Buy a SIM card in Canada: where and at what price?
- You can get a SIM card directly in the shop of the mobile phone provider. You can find such a shop in every shopping mall. Alternatively, you will also find something in electronics stores, supermarkets, at the post office and at the kiosk.
- As in Germany, you can usually get the SIM card for around 10 CAD - around 6.50 euros - with the same amount of starting credit. Mobile data volume is unfortunately relatively expensive. 100 MB costs well and more than 10 CAD euros. For a GB, around 30 CAD may be due a month.
- Alternatively, you can get a SIM card before you travel. Among other things, you will find it at Verivox. However, the costs are always a bit higher here, so that you can get away cheaper when buying directly on site.
