If your SIM card is not recognized by the cell phone, there can be several reasons. We will tell you what it can be and how you can solve the respective problems.
Solution: SIM card is not recognized
First of all, you should simply switch your cell phone off and on again. This deletes temporary errors in the buffer. Often the problem is already solved. Also check whether the card is properly seated in the slot.
Soiled SIM card is not recognized
Often, small dust particles settle on the card that interfere with the contact between SIM and cell phone. It is best to clean the card with a microfiber cloth. If necessary, a damp finger does the same. However, make sure that you insert the card completely dry into the cell phone again.
Smartphone or cell phone dirty
You should also carefully clean the contacts of the SIM slot. If this is very difficult to access, as with the iPhone, blow into the slot a few times. But be careful: try to blow as "dry" as possible so that no saliva or strong moisture gets into the phone.
SIM card defective
If all this does not help, a defect in the card cannot be ruled out.
- If the SIM card is still relatively new, your provider will usually send you a free replacement card. As a rule, it is not assumed that you caused the damage yourself.
- If it is an age-related wear and tear, some providers incur low costs for a new card. These are around 5 euros.
Defect of the cell phone
The defect may also be due to your cell phone. Fortunately, this is rarely the case.
- It is best to try the SIM card in another device. If the fault is with your device, contact the seller or manufacturer and insist on your warranty rights.
- The problem: the warranty and often the warranty have expired at the latest after two years. A repair is only worthwhile in the rarest of cases. A new smartphone is often much cheaper here.
Root or jailbreak
If you have jailbroken your iPhone or rooted your Android smartphone, you should reset the device to the factory settings. Even if you haven't changed the software, this step can help.
Some current smartphones now use a so-called eSIM, in which such problems can no longer arise. In the following practical tip, we will explain exactly what it is and what other advantages the eSIM brings with it.
