A simlock limits the usability of your mobile phone to a certain area or a certain provider. This practical tip tells you how to check whether your iPhone or Android phone is also affected by the block.
Simlock Check on iPhones
iPhones are more likely to experience a simlock than Android smartphones. There are two ways to check the iPhone for a simlock.
- Way 1: The easiest way is to simply insert a third-party SIM card from another provider into your iPhone. If this is recognized, your iPhone is not affected by a simlock. If the iPhone does not recognize the SIM card, it has a SIM lock.
- Way 2: You can also find out the SIM lock status of your iPhone using the IMEI number, which you can find in the settings under "Info". At MyimeiUnlock.com, you can then use this number to check if your iPhone is locked.
Simlock Check on Android phones
Android phones can also have a simlock and there are two ways to find out whether the phone has a simlock on Android smartphones.
- Way 1: As already explained above on the basis of the iPhone, you can also find out whether your mobile phone has a SIM lock with an Android using a friend's SIM card. Then the foreign SIM would not be recognized.
- Way 2: On IMEI.info you can call up a lot of information, including the Simlock status, by entering the IMEI number of your mobile phone. You can find the IMEI of your Android phone in the settings at the bottom under "About device".
