Sims 4: Install mods - how it works
In Sims 4, you can add or expand game content with so-called mods from other players. We explain step by step how to install the modifications in this practical tip.
Sims 4: Mods for new game content
Similar to many other computer games, Sims 4 uses mods to unlock new game content that the game developers have not intended. The new game content is not about other colors or objects, but about new or removed functions. This game content is usually programmed and made available by other players.
- There are now countless mods for the Sims series. One of the best known modifications is the removal of pixelation from bare ledges.
- The mods can be downloaded and installed free of charge on various platforms on the Internet.
Instructions: Install Mods for Sims 4
If you have downloaded a modification from the Internet and saved it on your computer, you must install it.
- First check whether the mod files with the extension ".package" are in a directory. If this is the case, unzip the directory using a packing program such as WinRar or WinZip for data compression.
- First go to the folder "C: \ Users \ [your user name] \ My Documents \ Electronic Arts \ The Sims 4 \ Mods". The designation "[your user name]" is a variable that differs from user to user.
- Create a folder with a suitable name for the modification and insert the ".package" file in it.
- In a last step, start Sims 4 and navigate in the game options via the "More" tab to "Show Mods". Here you can see all available mods and activate them with a tick in the checkbox next to them.
- Note that you will need to restart the game as soon as you have activated or deactivated a new mod for the changes to take effect.
With the mods, you can manipulate the functions of Sims 4 at your convenience, without damaging your game status or the game file.
