The right slope apps for the winter vacation ensure the ultimate skiing fun for skiers and snowboarders: From route and altitude profiles to avalanche warning - you shouldn't miss our 5 top apps.
5th place: Reserve ski and snowboard equipment via app
- With the free "INTERSPORT Rent" app (here for iOS), you can effortlessly reserve the right snowboard and ski equipment for your winter sports holiday to Austria from your smartphone. This means that you have the latest winter sports equipment in the 70 coveted winter sports regions of Austria with over 170 branches.
- The reserved equipment is waxed, the edges are sanded so that you can go straight to the slopes.
4th place: Avalanche app - Ski and snowboard safely off the slopes
- The "White Risk" app (here for iOS) contains clever tools and information and assesses the current avalanche situation free of charge. This makes this app a helpful companion, especially for freeriders and holidays in mountains with an avalanche risk.
- The application has current weather and snow data as well as avalanche reports for Switzerland. You will also receive useful basic knowledge to better assess the avalanche danger. Using an analyzer with four sliders, you can determine the snow properties, for example, and then use the app to know whether there is an avalanche risk.
3rd place: power meter and HD video for skiers & snowboarders
With "Skiline" you will receive a personal performance curve in the form of an altitude meter diagram after successful registration:
- Once you have entered your ski pass number in the free app, you can view your daily and weekly statistics. There you will receive information about your kilometers of slopes and altitude and about the various lift rides on each day of skiing.
- Some ski areas even have Skiline Terminals, where you, as a Skiliner, can print out your own altitude graph.
- Or you record your winter experiences in a self-made "Skiline Movie" on specially selected sections of the slopes. An HD film camera films you from the start to the finish. The film will then be made available on your Skiline account. This service is free of charge.
2nd place: winter sports app with tracking tool and rewards
- The "MAPtoSNOW" app (here for iOS) creates an individual performance profile for you: GPS altitude is used to record the altitude, the kilometers of slopes and even the speed.
- The athlete is rewarded for his performance and motivated with so-called "pins". For example, you will get the "high flyer pin" when you have completed 2, 000 meters in altitude. Companies and local businesses sometimes book the pins as advertising media and can give you a reward. This gives you an incentive to collect the pins to receive points and to redeem them as a discount in the sports shop, for example. You can also take part in competitions.
- In addition, the free tracking app also works offline thanks to the use of GPS. An Internet connection is only required for data synchronization.
1st place: piste maps as an app for winter sports fans
- With the "Ski & Snow Depths" app you get all snow reports from more than 2, 000 ski areas (including Sölden, Winterberg, Ischgl, Kitzbühel) worldwide.
- You also benefit from piste reports and pictures of other winter sports enthusiasts and can share reports yourself.
- Get an overview via live webcams or get extensive weather forecasts for numerous ski areas.
- For powder snow fans there is even a "powder alarm" that informs you about fresh snow. With this app you also always have piste maps and other useful information about the respective ski areas.
