If you wanted to transfer Sky Go to the TV via HDMI, you have always had to bypass a lock. The locks for some devices have now been lifted. We explain how streaming via HDMI works.
Bypass HDMI lock on Sky Go
Depending on the device, other options are available. Here you will find all variants.
- Computer: Sky customers were able to use Sky Go in the browser for many years, now that is the end. The new Sky Go desktop app for Windows and Mac is not well received by many customers, but at least it does not prevent transmission via HDMI. Simply connect the PC or laptop to your television using an HDMI cable. Start Sky Go and you can enjoy the stream on TV. Here you will find further help on HDMI transmission.
- iPhone: For licensing reasons, you cannot transfer Sky Go content from your iPhone or iPad to your TV. This applies to both HDMI connections and wireless AirPlay connections. The following detour, which you used to be able to stream Sky Go to Apple TV, no longer works. If you have an Apple TV, you can install the Sky Q app on it.
- Smartphone and tablet: Unfortunately, the same applies to Android devices. The former detour with the Chromecast is no longer possible. Sky would like to bind its customers to its own hardware, for example to the Sky Online TV Box. The device is quite expensive at 50 euros, but on eBay you will find many used devices for around 10 euros.
