With Alexa, you can now also make Skype calls. This practical tip shows you what you need and how easy it is.
Skype calls with Alexa - the requirements
The basic requirement for using Alexa is an Amazon Echo.
- Skype telephony works for all Amazon Echo devices, i.e. for all generations of the Amazon Echo, Echo Plus, Echo Dot, Echo Spot and Echo Show.
- It is important that the latest version of Alexa is installed. We'll show you how to update Alexa on Amazon Echo in a separate post.
- You also need a Skype account yourself and the person you want to call.
Skype calls with Alexa - so it works
If the prerequisites are met, setting up Alexa for Skype calls is very easy.
- Open the Skype app or the Alexa website. Navigate to "Communication" via "Settings".
- Select Skype here and link Alexa to your Skype account. We explain in detail how to connect Skype with a Microsoft account in another practical tip.
- That was it. You can now make Skype calls via Alexa and answer via Skype calls.
- To call a Skype account with Alexa, use the command "Alexa, call [name] on Skype". Alternatively, you can say "Alexa call [number] on Skype".
- If you call yourself on Skype on your Alexa, you can recognize this by the typical Skype ringtone. With the command "Alexa, answer the call" you accept the call.
