Skype: Mute chats - how it works
If you don't want to be disturbed by certain Skype users, you can mute the corresponding chats. We will show you how to do this in Skype itself and the associated apps.
Skype: Mute individual chats and messages
These steps apply to Skype 7.39.0.102 for PC. You can find the function in the app versions in another way, as we explain in the second paragraph.
- Open the desired chat in Skype.
- Enter the command "/ alertsoff" in the chat window and confirm with [Enter].
- If you would like to reactivate the tones later, enter "/ alertson".
- Tip: If you put a word after "/ alertson", Skype will only notify you of messages that receive this code. With "/ alertson Chip", for example, a sound only sounds if your contact uses the word "Chip" in his message.
Mute Skype chats in the apps
Skype is not only available as a desktop program, but also as an app for Android, iOS and Windows 10. There you can mute each chat individually. If you only want to deactivate the notifications for certain messages, you still have to use the above commands.
- To do this, open the desired chat in the Skype app and tap the icon with the three dots at the top right.
- In the menu, choose the "Deactivate notifications" entry. If you tap the entry, a crossed out red circle appears next to the chat name.
- To switch the messages back on, open the menu again and select "Activate notifications".
