In order to continue using your old Skype account under Windows 8 and 10, or to set up a new Skype account without a Microsoft account, you need the conventional desktop version of Skype. You can install them using the following steps. You can find details and solutions in the picture gallery.
- Close the Skype Modern app and remove it from the tile overview. Uninstall the program completely.
- Download Skype for Windows from the Skype homepage.
- Carry out the installation as usual.
- Start Skype from the desktop or start the newly installed Skype from the tile overview of the Modern UI.
- You will now be asked to sign in with a Microsoft account. You can simply ignore this message. If you click on it, you can easily log in with your old Skype name.
- Alternatively, create a new account. You don't need a Microsoft account for this either.
Skype for Web: making calls without an account?
It is now possible to receive a call via a browser plug-in.
- The caller simply sends an appointment and link to a recipient via e-mail and the video chat can be carried out via the web browser. All you need is the Skype web plug-in.
- Contrary to the announcement of Skype, you also need a Microsoft account or a Skype account.
- Alternatively, use Skype for Web only as a guest. You will then receive a link to an individual room. However, this only lasts for 24 hours. With this link you can invite friends to chat.
