An echo noise during a Skype call can be very annoying. We'll show you what you can do about it.
Prevent echo noise in Skype
The Skype software can already suppress echoes very well. If you still hear an echo during the conversation, you should follow these steps to resolve the problem.
- First you should find out which of the call participants is generating the echo. If you can hear yourself through your own speakers, another participant in the Skype conversation will echo.
- The echo is generated by a feedback. The microphone picks up the sound from the speakers and "sends" it again.
- As a first solution, you should lower the volume of your speakers. In many cases, this can already solve the problem. Note that you can make an echo sound even with headphones with poor insulation. Here, too, reducing the volume can help.
- If changing the volume does not solve the problem, you should reposition your microphone and speakers. These should be as far apart as possible.
- If you are using a device with two microphones - for example laptop and table microphone - you should check under "Actions" -> "Options" -> "Audio Settings" whether you have selected the correct microphone. Microphones built into a laptop often produce a very strong echo.
- If you have not been able to solve the problem with the previous steps, you should use closed headphones. Normal cell phone headphones are already ideal for this. Because these usually solve any echo problem.
