Remove Skype virus: how it works
The Skype virus has infected many computers in a short time. You should remove this malware as soon as possible as it has a high risk potential. You can find out how to do this in this practical tip.
1. Deactivate / remove Skype virus with virus scanner
You can catch the Skype virus by hitting infected websites or having it sent to you by contacts. The second way is the most common, as it automatically sends messages to all contacts when Skype users are already infected. A text such as "hello, tell me honestly are your photos?" and below that a link to the supposed image. If you click on it, your computer is also infected.
- Download "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware" or another anti-virus program and run a system scan.
- Usually, the programs should find and remove the virus. However, the malware can update itself and thus hide itself. Therefore, you may still have to do something yourself.
Remove Skype virus using Command Prompt
Shut down your computer and start it in safe mode. To do this, press the "F8" key when starting.
- Go to the command prompt. You do this by pressing the "Win" and "R" keys simultaneously. Enter the "cmd" command in the "Open:" field.
- Now enter "cd c: \ Users \ Username \ AppData \ Roaming". "Username" is replaced by your user name (for example "Alex").
- Now enter "del * .exe". This will remove the virus from the directory.
- Now you have to deactivate the programs that the Skype virus may have entered in the system start. How to do this, read here for Windows 7 and here for Windows 8.
