Connect Smart TV with Macbook - Here's how
If you want to connect your Smart TV to a Macbook, you can do so via an HDMI or VGA cable. You will need an adapter for this. We show you which variant is recommended and how it works.
You need these accessories for sharing via VGA or HDMI
Every Macbook has a Thunderbolt port, which is roughly square. You can connect an adapter to this, which you can use to connect the Macbook to the television using a VGA or HDMI cable.
- VGA: With a VGA cable, you can only transfer the image of the Macbook. You also need to connect an audio cable for the sound.
- HDMI: You can transmit both picture and sound with an HDMI cable. So you only need one cable and get a much better picture quality.
- If you buy a Thunderbolt adapter, you should access an HDMI connection. In addition, only a few Smart TVs have a VGA connection.
- Of course, in addition to the adapter, you also need an HDMI or VGA cable. These are usually available at a reasonable price in the nearest electronics store.

How to get your screen on the TV:
- Connect the HDMI or VGA adapter to the Thunderbolt port on your Macbook.
- Now connect the adapter to the Smart TV using an HDMI or VGA cable.
- Click the button labeled "Source" on your remote control. Depending on the brand or model of the TV, the lettering may also vary slightly.
- If you use an HDMI cable, select "HDMI" as the source. There may be several inputs here, try them all. If you use a VGA cable choose the option "PC" or "VGA".
- The Macbook screen will now stream on your Smart TV.
