Smartphone displays in the Stiftung Warentest Check: These cell phone models failed the fall test
Stiftung Warentest tested the stability of cell phone displays. Many devices failed the test. In this practical tip, we will tell you exactly which cell phone models are affected.
Smartphone displays in the test: These models did poorly
Stiftung Warentest simulated the fall of a smartphone from 80 centimeters onto a stone floor using a rotating drum. A total of 21 smartphones had to undergo the drop test.
- According to the testers, most of the devices showed no major damage after about 100 falls.
- For example, scratches and dents were visible on the devices, but according to the Stiftung Warentest they were completely normal for such a fall.
- However, some devices also showed major damage. Samsung's Galaxy S8, S8 +, Galaxy J5 and Note 8 had suffered considerable damage to the displays.
- The reason: Samsung uses an almost frameless design for these smartphones. The display is bent over the sides and is therefore more susceptible to damage.
- The Samsung Galaxy J5 has a normal frame, but failed in the test.
These smartphone displays have convinced
- Surprisingly, the older Samsung Galaxy A5 was convincing in the test: it survived almost every 100 drops without damage.
- The winners of the Stiftung Warentest test include the iPhone 8 Plus, the LG G6 and the HTC U11.
- Overall, the grade "very good" was awarded a total of 12 times.
