Writing / receiving SMS on iPod touch: is that possible?
With iOS on-board means, unfortunately, you cannot write or receive SMS on iPod Touch. However, there is an app that makes this possible. Here we show you how to do it.
Write SMS with Yuilop
The "iMessage" app is automatically integrated into iOS. However, you can only use it to send short messages to other Apple devices. If you want to send correct SMS, you need a different app and of course a WiFi connection, since the iPod does not have a mobile network reception. With apps like Yuilop you get your own mobile number for your iPod. This is how Yuilop works:
- With this app, sending SMS messages costs points. You can get new points, for example, by receiving SMS.
- After you have registered and entered your data including a valid mobile phone number, you can choose a new mobile phone number.
- You now have a starting credit that is topped up when you receive SMS. There are many services on the Internet that you can use to send short messages for free. Should the credit run out, you can simply send a few SMS from there to your Yuilop number to get new points. You can also take part in promotions from the app to fill your account.
With the mobile phone number you can not only send free SMS and make phone calls, but you can also call and receive SMS just like with a normal mobile phone number. If you don't want to download an additional app to your iPod, you can send and receive up to 100 SMS per month free of charge on sites like sms.de. However, caution is advised with such pages. Often there is an expensive subscriber behind the free lock offers.
