Sending and receiving SMS in the fixed network - is that possible?
SMS messages can be sent as well as received in the fixed network. We'll show you exactly how this works.
Send and receive SMS in the fixed network
Sending and receiving SMS messages in the fixed network only works if the respective phones support this function.
- If you receive an SMS message via the fixed network, there are two ways of transmission. If the "Caller ID" function is available and activated, the message is shown on the display. Otherwise, the message lands on the answering machine and is read out there by machine.
- If your phones can be reached via your router, you can configure the forwarding of SMS messages to your e-mail address or your mobile phone on some models.
- Sending SMS messages is currently possible with relatively few devices, since the function is not particularly in demand. You will find a note in the user guide for your phone as to whether this is possible.
Send SMS to landlines
- To test whether you receive SMS messages over the fixed network, simply send yourself a message. The usual costs apply, the reception is usually free of charge.
- However, SMS messages are rarely delivered to landlines at night. This is how the mobile network providers keep their sleep.
