Snapchat can be used even better with a few tips and tricks. The former disposable photo messenger has now developed into a sophisticated application with many options. We give you valuable tips in this practical tip.
1. Snapchat tip: view snaps in Snapchat several times
Actually, Snapchat was once intended to quickly and consistently exchange photos that can be deleted immediately after viewing and can no longer be found. You can call up snaps repeatedly with the following steps:
- After taking a photo or video, you can use the loop icon at the bottom right to choose how long the snap should be displayed or, for videos, whether it should be repeated.
- When you receive a snap, you can press and hold the chat again to repeat the snap.
- Save snaps even more cleverly by simply taking a screenshot of the message you received - however, your Snapchat partner will be informed.
2. Snapchat tip: paint with more colors
You can add a text in Snapchat by tapping the screen and either write it with your finger or open a text field to type in using the T button. How to use more colors for self-written or painted content than the color palette appears to provide:
- Tap the small pen in the top right after taking a photo.
- Hold your finger on the narrow rainbow bar.
- An expanded palette opens, which even offers transparent colors on Android devices.
- On iPhone, swipe your finger from the top of the rainbow column to the left of the screen to get white. For black, just pull your finger down. Both colors are not visible in the palette on the iPhone.
- In order to have more space for text in a snap, it is worth using the smartphone simply in landscape format. Another tap on the T symbol also changes the font size.
3. Snapchat tip: use the front camera as a flash for selfies
The front camera usually has no flash in the smartphone. However, since selfies are often sent with Snapchat, the developers of the app have come up with something.
- To activate the "flash", call up the extended screen via the small ghost in the middle in the recording mode.
- Tap on the gear icon and select the "Manage" option under the "More options" menu item. Activate the checkbox behind "Front camera flash".
- If a selfie is now taken with Snapchat, the screen briefly illuminates white to better illuminate your face.
- The flash can be switched on even faster by tapping the flash symbol in the top left corner of the recording mode.
- Incidentally, a quick double tap in the recording mode is enough to switch between the front and rear cameras more quickly.
4. Snapchat tip: use location-based and other filters
If you miss filters for your photos at Snapchat, you can activate them in a hidden menu item.
- In photo capture mode, tap the little Snapchat ghost in the top center.
- In the following screen you will find a small gear wheel for the settings in the top right. Tap on this and select the "Manage" option under the "More options" menu item.
- At the top you can now activate the filters. However, to use this, Snapchat accesses your current location. In addition to the filters, location, special nearby objects, speed and weather can be called up and integrated into the snap.
- In the finished snap, you can swipe left and right to choose between the filters.
5. Snapchat tip: settings for visibility and notifications
In the settings you can further personalize the visibility and notifications for snaps.
- If you only want to see snaps from your friends, you can set the appropriate setting under the menu item "Privacy". You can even choose which stories to share for specific people.
- Under "Advanced" in the settings menu, you can determine how you will be notified on the Android smartphone. This can be done, for example, by LED, ringtone or vibration. In general, the notifications can also be deactivated here. iPhone users can find these options in the system settings under "Messages" and "Snapchat".
- You cannot delete individual snaps, but it is possible to say goodbye to complete conversations. You will find this option under "Settings", "Account Actions" and "Delete Conversations".
- The Snapchat version for iOS also offers an option in the settings to save battery. When the Snapchat app is open, the camera and display are usually in continuous operation. The camera turns itself off after a short period of inactivity in power-saving mode.
6. Snapchat tip: take pictures of snaps without the other user knowing
- If you take a screenshot of the displayed snap on Snapchat, the other user will be informed.
- But there is a simple trick how you can avoid this notification and photograph a snap without problems.
- When viewing the snaps, tap the home button and switch to the "Settings" of your smartphone.
- Activate the "Airplane mode" there and switch back to Snapchat. Alternatively, you can swipe up from the bottom of the iPhone to activate flight mode.
- Now you can take a picture of the Snap as usual, without the other user noticing it.
- Note: For the process to work, you need to log out and close the app. Then start the app again and log in again.
7. Snapchat tip: use more text
- With Snapchat, only one-line text can be inserted into the image.
- However, there is a little trick here as well to avoid this and post more text.
- Simply switch to the Notes app and copy multiple paragraphs here.
- After that, switch back to Snapchat and paste those paragraphs there.
- You can then fill the paragraphs with any text and send them.
