Transfer software to a new PC - how it works
Transferring software to a new PC often ends in chaos. We'll show you how to do it right.
Transfer software and programs to a new PC: the classic way
The installation of a program extends deep into the computer's registry files. It is therefore usually not possible to simply move the data back and forth.
- You should therefore not simply copy your programs to a USB stick and upload the data to your new PC again. Better follow the steps below.
- Open the Control Panel and click on "Uninstall a program". You will now find a list of all programs on your computer.
- Write down the most important ones and download them again on your PC.
- Remember that you should pay attention to 32- and 64-bit versions.
- Note: If you still have the software setup file, you can alternatively transfer it with the USB stick and run it on the new PC.
Transfer license
- Many programs run through paid licenses, but you can usually transfer them.
- Open the settings of a program and look for items such as "Transfer license", "Change license" or "Add new device".
