Soy drinks in the test: Winner at Stiftung Warentest and Öko-Test
Stiftung Warentest tested 15 soy drinks in the August 2018 edition, ten of which contain calcium. We show you both the test winners and the bargains on soy drinks.
Test winner soy drinks without calcium added at Stiftung Warentest
In the test, Stiftung Warentest examined the soy drinks for their taste and smell, among other things, and the ingredients and questionable ingredients also played a role in the test. The experts also tested whether bacteria were contained and whether the packaging and its details were customer-friendly.
- The test winner is the "Bio Soja Drink Natur" from Berief (grade 1.9). It is an organic product without additional calcium. With a price of EUR 1.29 per liter, it is in the middle of the tested products. The testers could not find any bacteria or critical substances. Some of the soybeans were even traceable.
- Second place went to three products with a grade of 2.1. These include the organic drink "Soya unsweetened" from Provamel, also enriched without calcium, for 1.99 euros per liter.
- The two test winners of the soy drinks with (!) Calcium additive: "Soya Light" from Alpro for 1.89 euros per liter and "Milbona Bio Organic Soy Drink" from Lidl for 0.95 euros in organic quality. All of them were in no way inferior to the test winner of the Stiftung Warentest in terms of smell, taste and mouthfeel.
Second-placed soy drink is a bargain tip in the test
In the test, five products had to prove themselves for 0.95 euros per liter - but only one bargain was able to convince the testers:
- The "Milbona Bio Organic Soy Drink" from Lidl is available in organic quality and comes second in the test of all drinks tested. Among the products with calcium addition, it is even the test winner. With a price of 0.95 euros per liter, it is also the cheapest product in the test with the best result.

Five defective products: critical substances found
Stiftung Warentest awarded five products with a poor result. We present the tail lights with and without calcium addition here:
- The "Bio Soja Drink Calcium" (grade: 5.5) with calcium enrichment from dm took last place. Especially in terms of taste and smell, the product fell through for 0.95 euros per liter.
- "Soya Bean Milk" by Drinho (grade: 4.8) came last in the soy drinks without calcium. The critical substances were particularly criticized. For example, the experts found too much chlorate.
Öko-Test: Many soy drinks with genetic engineering and contaminated with chlorate
In 2015 the consumer magazine Öko-Test also tested 20 soy drinks and, above all, checked whether and which pollutants are contained in the soy drinks. It was also checked whether genetic engineering was used.
- Almost half of all tested soy drinks scored "Good" or "Very good". The test winners were the products "Bio Dinkel Natur" from Berief (1.69 euros) and the "Bio Haferdrink Natur" from Edeka (1.49 euros) and the "Rice & Rice Drink Natural" from Probios (2.89 euros) and "Soja So Lecker Bio Naturell" (0.95 euros).
- The "Bio Naturell Drink" by Soja So Lecker and the "Soya Original + Calcium" by Alpro were the only two drinks that were 100% GMO-free. In addition, too much chlorate was found in many soy drinks.
