Replace sound card - instructions
If the old sound card is defective or you just want a better sound, you can easily replace the sound card yourself. To do this, you need a screwdriver and a little sensitivity - then the exchange action is done in a flash.
Replace computer sound card
Before you do anything on your computer, first disconnect it from the power supply.
- Before you can replace the sound card, you must first unscrew the computer.
- The old sound card sits in a PCI slot on the mainboard.
- If you are unsure which of the built-in cards is the sound card, simply look at the connections on the back of your computer. You can easily recognize the sound card by the connections for the headphones or speakers or microphone.
- Once you have clearly identified the sound card, unscrew it. Then carefully pull it out of the slot.
Install a new sound card
- After the old sound card is removed, take the new sound card and carefully insert it into the slot.
- You may need to apply a little pressure to ensure that the sound card is properly seated in the slot. Before you press lightly, make sure that the sound card is exactly in the middle of the slot.
- Finally, screw everything back on and turn on the computer. Usually the sound card is recognized automatically and you do not have to do anything else.
- If your computer does not recognize the new sound card, insert the enclosed driver CD and install the required software.
- Tip: When installing cards such as sound or graphics cards, always make sure that the cards on your motherboard are as far apart as possible. This allows the air to circulate better in the computer case.
It is relatively rare, but it can of course happen that your sound card is not recognized. If so, we have prepared a few tips in the next post.
