Dishwasher stinks - so you eliminate all smells
If the dishwasher stinks, it is usually the result of spoiled food residues. We give you cleaning tips that are guaranteed to eliminate all odors.
Dishwasher stinks: find causes
The source of bad smells in the dishwasher are mainly food residues:
- Leftovers on the floor of the dishwashers
- Leftovers of food in the sieve
- Food residues on the dishes in the dishwasher
How to get rid of the stench
Some home remedies that you can try one after the other help to remove the garbage from your dishwasher:
- Clean the bottom of the dishwasher with hot water.
- Rub the inside of your dishwasher with a halved lemon and then place one lemon on the floor and one in the cutlery basket of your machine.
- Alternatively, vinegar sells bad smells. Put vinegar in a spray bottle and spray the inside of the machine. Then let the device run as usual.
- Sprinkling a little baking soda on the bottom of the dishwasher before washing also helps against bad smells. But be careful: do not combine vinegar and baking soda.
- Finally, it often helps to clean the seals of your dishwasher with a little washing-up liquid, hot water and a sponge. Then wipe with clear water.
- A little tip: Many find the smell of the rinse aid unpleasant. Here it helps to use dishwasher tablets that already contain rinse aid.
Prevention of bad things in the dishwasher
A few small things are often enough to prevent bad smells:
- In particular, remove larger food residues from your dishes and cutlery so that the sieve and cutlery basket do not become clogged.
- Wash the cutlery basket and the dishwasher filter every few weeks with a little washing-up liquid in hot water.
- Use the hottest rinse cycle of your machine every now and then to eliminate more germs.
